Laser Hair Removal Before and After.
What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is an effective way to achieve permanent hair reduction of 90-95% with a series of 5-8 treatments. We use the Apogee Elite laser which affects only hair follicles that are in the active or growing (anagen) phase. The laser targets melanin in the hair follicle without heating the rest of the skin. Once the follicle is destroyed it will no longer produce hair. For optimal results all laser appointments should be scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart.
Are you a candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a safe and effective treatment for unwanted hair for both men and women. By providing two different wavelengths, the Apogee Elite laser can be used to treat patients with all types of skin. The addition of the YAG laser allows us to treat patients of darker skin types for excessive hair growth, especially of the face, underarms, and bikini area. Laser hair removal is also an effective treatment for patients with pseudofolliculitis (razor bumps) on the beard, face, and neck. The number of treatments varies according to skin type and color of the hair being treated. Dark hair typically requires fewer treatments than light colored or blonde hair.
What to expect during a laser hair removal treatment?
A numbing cream will be applied for 10 to 15 minutes prior to the treatment to help minimize discomfort. Areas to be treated will be marked with a white pencil and you will be given goggles to protect your eyes. The sensation felt during laser hair removal is often compared to that of a rubber band snapping on the skin’s surface and is due to heat building up in the hair follicle. As you progress in the number of treatments the hair follicles produce thinner and finer hair which retains less heat, thereby reducing discomfort. Normal side effects during and after treatment include itching, redness, swelling, pain, and temporary pigment changes.
